SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for modifying biopolymers and can be used in creature of a blood substitute - oxygen transporters. Invention claims polymeric hemoglobin of the formula (-deoxy-Hb-Ga-deoxy-Hb-) (-hydroxy-Hb-Ga-hydroxy-Hb-) wherein Hb means hemoglobin and Ga means glutaraldehyde of molecular mass 6.5 x 107 - 1 x 106 Da possessing capacity to retain the gas-transport function of hemoglobin. Method for its preparing involves condensation of native hemoglobin in deoxy-conformation with bifunctional reagents, for example, with glutaraldehyde in buffer solutions at neutral pH values and at temperature 4-6°C. Polymeric hemoglobin retain the native conformation of interaction heme-heme that is expressed in the complete retaining the gas-transport function of hemoglobin molecules.

EFFECT: improved preparing method, valuable biological and medicinal properties of polymeric hemoglobin.
