FIELD: measurement technology, specifically, check of linear dimensions, for instance, check of level of water in reservoirs of water supply systems. SUBSTANCE: proposed method involves organization of basic acoustic pulses probing checked distance, usage of given pulses for formation of sequence of information pulses, organization of process of autocirculation of additional acoustic pulses probing base distance, usage of given pulses for formation of sequence of standard pulses and determination of checked distance by relation of number of standard and information pulses recorded in time interval between two moments of simultaneous formation of standard and information pulses of corresponding sequence. Device for implementation of method has acoustic transducer composed of two ultrasonic converters. One of beams of two-beam radiation pattern of first of them is oriented along checked distance and the other one - along direction of spatial orientation of one of beams of two-beam radiation pattern of second converter installed on base distance from reflector of acoustic pulses oriented perpendicular to direction of propagation of given pulses.
