FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, in particular, steel making in oxygen converters. SUBSTANCE: method includes charging of converter with hot metal and metal scrap, blowing of metal with oxygen, reduction of oxygen supply intensity at the end of blowing, introduction of measuring lance, finishing, if required, heat with respect to temperature and carbon content. The moment of introduction of measuring lance is determined by formula A=(60-62.5)+B, where A is quantity of consumed oxygen for heat, %; (60-62.5) are empirical coefficients. EFFECT: increased yield of product metal, higher converter output and converter lining stability, and reduced consumption of alloying and deoxidizing agents. 1 tbl
