FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: abrasive material may be in the form of abrasive layer secured to carrier by means of chemical and/or physical binders. Carrier is preferably made of flexible material of plastic type. Abrasive material may be shaped as free abrasive without carrier. It may also be formed as vacuum condensate containing at least 80 atomic per cent of superdispersed composite extra hard diamond-like substance preferably containing carbon and including less than 0.1 atomic per cent of hydrogen and less than 0.1 atomic per cent of oxygen. Abrasive material is obtained from pulse flows of accelerated electroerosive plasma. Provision is made for reproducibility of characteristics of abrasive material which allows use of carriers with low temperature of thermal destruction. EFFECT: higher polishing capacity. 20 cl, 4 dwg, 1 tbl, 10 ex
