FIELD: mechanical engineering; exhaust systems of internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: device has housing - catalyst carrier with number of channels to pass gases. Free cross-sectional area of channels is partially overlapped in direction of exhaust gas flow due to plastic deformation if channel walls, namely, in external ring zone of housing-catalyst carrier. Plastic deformation can be provided using corresponding tool. This tool has plate rotating around axle for this purpose. Plate is pressed with force to housing-catalyst carrier and tubes-shaped casing, thus providing plastic deformation of casing and channel walls. As a result circular concave groove is formed on housing-catalyst carrier. Other methods of plastic deformation can be used. External channels, thus overlapped, provided heat insulation relative to tube-shaped casing thanks to which housing-catalyst carrier gets quickly heated at starting from cold.
