FIELD: gas treatment. SUBSTANCE: emission gases (e.g. power station ones) preheated by heat of treated gases and heat provided by combustion of pyrolysis gases come into contact with coke prepared by coal pyrolysis. Contact is conducted at 750-850 C for 0.02-0.45 s to give activated coke, sulfur vapors and nitrogen formed by reduction of SO2 and NOx, respectively. Treated gases are fed as heat carrier into coal pyrolysis zone and, after preheating emission gases, are cooled with separation of condensed sulfur.
