FIELD: metal working, namely, honing cylindrical openings. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of providing rotation and reciprocation motion of honing head with abrasive bars; using as abrasive bars honing rings with abrasive layer thickness H mounted in such a way that their axes are inclined relative to honing head by angle α with possibility of forced rotation for reducing angle α at cutting-in, removing necessary allowance and self- sharpening. Abrasive honing rings are turned in their rotation plane by equal angles one relative to another. Maximum initial inclination angle α of abrasive honing rings is determined according to formula: αmax= arccos[R/(R+H)]max= arc cos[R/(R+H)], where R - radius of honed opening. Relation of speed values of rotation and reciprocation motions is no more than value calculated by formula: Vr/Vrec vr 2 vb-n R/(2tgvr/vb-n≤2πR/(2Rtgα+B)+B), where B - height of abrasive honing rings. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of honing, improved quality of honed openings, reduced energy consumption for removing metal unit due to use of honing head with working surface inclined relative to lengthwise axis of ring, enhanced chip removal and supply of cutting fluid. 4 dwg
