FIELD: metallurgy, namely highly effective processes for making continuously cast billets. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of introducing to non-working mold before starting casting process two belts and moving them towards center of mold; supplying liquid metal to mold; after achieving predetermined level of melt metal in mold and skin formation, starting operation of mold. Plant includes drums and guiding rollers providing possibility for moving belts to center of mold in such a way that width b1 of belt introduced to mold and height h1 of drawing belts together from inlet of mold are related with width b and height H of inclined upper portion of faces by next relations: b1=(0.7-0.8)b; h1=(0.4-0.6)H. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process, less loss of yield, improved structure of billets, enhanced operational reliability of plant. 2cl, 2 dwg, 1 ex
