FIELD: gas-discharge engineering; color video modules. SUBSTANCE: display elements of panel including four display electrodes have their middle electrodes spaced through distance l1 which is greater than distances l2 and l3 between each of middle electrodes and adjacent extreme electrodes; control process includes supply of general recording pulses to one of middle display electrodes and to its adjacent extreme electrode during warm-up period and alternate supply of discharge- maintenance scanning pulses to each pair of display electrodes set up of one middle electrode and adjacent extreme electrode in addressing mode of operation; discharge-maintenance pulses across each pair have similar amplitudes and polarity. Most reliable control of panel is ensured when l1, l2, l3 are chosen from equations with l2 = l3 EFFECT: improved reliability of control process due to reduced control voltages. 4 cl, 3 dwg
