FIELD: metallurgy, namely energy-saving process for making bimetallic billets. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of introducing electrode bands into mold after pouring melt metal; heating and melting electrode bands due to passing electric current through them; alternatively pouring melt metal and introducing electrode bands made of metal other than poured one until making predetermined-length billets. Two electrode bands are fed to mold along its walls with inclined upper portion for heating and melting said electrode bands due to separately passing electric current through them. Melting point of poured metal is higher than that of metal of electrode bands. Rate R1 for making billet of metal of electrode bands and rate R2 for making billet of poured melt metal are mutually connected by relation R1= (0.3-0.6)R2. Installation for realizing the method includes two electrode bands and mechanisms for feeding them. Electrode bands have outer coating of non- electroconductive material. Pickup for detecting motion speed of billet is combined with system for automatically controlling rate of making billets. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of energy saving process. 3 cl, 2 dwg, 1 ex
