FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: method involves providing germination of seeds of crops or sorts under test for 14 days in thermostat on wetted filtering paper without access of light; providing stepped cooling of sprouts in cooling chamber under temperature mode: first day at temperature of 10 C, second day at temperature of 5 C; determining content of proline in leaves and calculating plant frost resistance coefficient, which is expressed as ratio of said amino acid content in plant leaves mass to initial value. Three groups of frost resistance are determined: high frost resistance corresponds to coefficient of 3.01 or higher; average frost resistance corresponds to coefficient of 1.51-3.00; low frost resistance corresponds to coefficient of 1.50 and below this value. EFFECT: intensified and simplified evaluation process and increased objectiveness of evaluation. 1 tbl
