FIELD: agriculture. SUBSTANCE: method involves determining free proline content in plant leaves at maximum stress period; calculating resistance coefficients as ratio of content of free proline in samples under test and samples of sort-classifier with known heat resistance value, with one or several sorts-classifiers being used for comparative evaluation. Method is used for evaluating heat resistance of selection material or new sorts of cereal and leguminous crops. EFFECT: reduced labor consumption, increased efficiency and objectivity in evaluating plant heat resistance. 1 tbl
