FIELD: metallurgy of rare-earth metals; obtaining rare-earth metals by chlorination of oxide materials in salt melt; production of hafnium, titanium niobium, tantalum chlorides.
SUBSTANCE: proposed device includes housing with shaft and hearth for melt, charge supply branch pipe, vapor-and-gas mixture discharge branch pipe, electrodes with water-cooled rods, vertical partition dividing the shaft into circulating chamber and bubbling chamber which are communicated by overflow port formed by partition located above hearth; bubbling chamber is provided with lance for introduction of chlorine and chutes for draining melt; it has one or several vertical partitions; height of overflow port is equal to 1/8-1/4 of height of level of melt; ratio of area of horizontal section of circulating chamber to area of horizontal section of bubbling chamber is equal to (0.8-1.2):1; circulating chamber is provided with chlorine inlet lance.
EFFECT: avoidance of sludge contamination f hearth; increased productivity; increased service life due to optimization of construction and improved hydrodynamic mode of operation.
