FIELD: electrical engineering; insulation and surge protection of high-voltage apparatuses and power transmission lines.
SUBSTANCE: proposed surge limiter designed, for instance, to insulate and protect disconnecting switches installed in substations and on distribution networks has insulator body made of polymeric material, two electrodes installed at ends of mentioned insulator, and varistor pile disposed between electrodes inside mentioned body; novelty is that varistor pile is installed inside body so that clearance is formed between body walls and outer surface of varistors; the latter are assembled within pile into separate modules; extreme modules are mechanically and electrically connected to their respective electrodes and to each other by means of spherical joints made of conducting material.
EFFECT: enhanced stability of surge limiter under external bending and torsional mechanical forces.
