FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed surge arrester has case, as well as two current leads brought out of case and at least one washer-shaped varistor disposed inside case and provided with two contact areas on butt-end surfaces. Each contact area is electrically connected to one or two current leads. Varistor has non-metallized active part and also two flexible contact members press-fitted by means of rigid current-conducting members to non-metallized butt-end surfaces of active part to provide for electric contact. Butt-end surfaces may be other than plane-parallel but rather convex or concave, or, if plane-parallel design is desired, they may form small angle in-between. Flexible contact members and non-metallized butt-end surfaces provide for reliable contact even in case their relative disposition is not completely planar and in case of convex or concave curvature.
EFFECT: reduced manufacturing cost of arrester due to high tolerances for active part dimensions in varistor manufacture.
