FIELD: ferrous metallurgy; oxygen converter steelmaking process.
SUBSTANCE: proposed method includes charging scrap metal and slag-forming materials into converter, pouring cast iron and oxygen lancing of melt through lance changing its position above level of melt. When content of silicon in cast iron ranges from 0.4 to 0.8%, slag-forming materials are added to charge in the amount of 60-70% of entire mass of slag-forming materials required for heat. When content of silicon in cast iron exceeds 0.8%, slag-forming materials are added to charge in the amount of 70-80% of entire mass of slag-forming materials. In the course of oxygen lancing, before attaining the working position of lance, content of carbon oxide is maintained at level not exceeding 15%. After lance has attained the working position, remaining slag-forming materials are added to converter in portions.
EFFECT: reduction of splashing from converter and metallizing of oxygen lance and converter gas cooler pan.
