FIELD: physics; measurement.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to registration of ionising radiation, to detecting a source of ionising radiation on check points, railway stations, airports, customs etc. The outcome is achieved by that, scintillating optical elements are made in form of rods with a triangular cross section. At the triangular butt ends of the rods there are photodetectors. The rods are arranged in a row parallel each other. Between their tops there is a similar row of rods with a triangular cross section. Two more rows of rods lie parallel. Planes of the adjacent additional row lie on planes of rods in the previous row. Perpendicular the said rows of rods with triangular cross section, there are four similar rows of rods with photodetectors at their butt ends.
EFFECT: more efficient registration, wider energy range of registered penetrating radiations and their types, more efficient collection of light, arising in a scintillator when ionising particles pass through it and transmission to photo diodes.
