FIELD: automatics.
SUBSTANCE: invention refers to automation of processes in engineering industry and can be used for controlling the position of metal and non-metal items without mechanical contact with them. Sensing element (SE) of the sensor is formed both by capacitive and inductive SE. When moving controllable items relative to SE the sensor provides modes both of selective and non-selective control thereof. There provided is the possibility of setting the strobing mode of the sensor in initial condition whereunder the sensor is not activated from controllable items. For choosing the required mode there provided are two sensor inputs. Sensor provides increased reliability in all its operating modes when foreign metal objects penetrate into the operating range of electromagnetic field of SE thereof. Owing thereto, in selective control mode of non-metal items there can be eliminated malfunctions from foreign metal objects penetrating into the operating ranges of electric and electromagnetic fields of SE thereof.
