FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: method is intended for machining gear wheels with circular or arc-like tooth shape and comprises free rolling of tool that features cutting edges offset along helical surface, and machined gear wheel. Note that the tool engages gear wheel to be machined out-of-pole, machining being carried out during intermittent radial feed after each of 2 to 4 machining cycles that include turning the tool back and forth for the number of revolutions equal to that of the gear wheel teeth. Aforesaid cycles do not comprise radial feed during 1 to 2 rolling cycles that include turning the tool back and forth for the number of revolutions equal to that of the gear wheel teeth. Note here that the tool has the number of teeth with no common multipliers with the number of machined gear teeth, except for unity. Tool and gear wheel are located on axes intersecting at 90°. Machining is performed with the tool with circular or arc-like tooth shape. Note that cutting edges of aforesaid teeth are located on flat cutting wheel.
