FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the special electric metallurgy and may be used to for melting of ingots of refractory and high-reaction metals and alloys, mainly titanic. Method includes heating and dewatering of consumed electrode by means of short-circuit current passage which is implemented in vacuum arc furnace by closed system electrode-mould-power supply during the process of degassing of arc before the beginning of melting process. Heating of consumed electrode during the degassing process is implemented up to temperature 150-170°C.
EFFECT: invention allows to increase the quality of molten metal and stability of technological process ensured by reduction of moisture content.
