FIELD: engines and pumps.
SUBSTANCE: at final adjustment of expandable nozzle of rocket engine, the first head piece is provided with expansion degree corresponding to the ratio of diameter of outlet section of the head piece to diameter of critical section of expandable nozzle of not more than five. The first head piece is installed on the nozzle flare in an extended position and tests are performed in the normal operating mode of the engine. When achieving positive test results, the rest head pieces are made so that they have safety factor that is not less than safety factor of the first head piece, and test results of the first head piece are transferred to the next head pieces.
EFFECT: invention allows performing final adjustment of expandable nozzles with several head pieces without simulation of high-altitude environment.
