FIELD: transport.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to vehicle identification and remote speed control. proposed method comprises video observation of traffic conditions by video camera mounted above the road at definite angle and isolation of separate moving vehicle in observation field of said camera. Prior to measurement, lengthwise size of frame is calibrated with referencing physical distance at road surface to relative distance at said frame corresponding to specific angle of camera location relative to road surface. Then, periodically, road surface free of traffic is fixed and shot frame-by-frame to subtract the former from obtained frame-by-frame image. Moving vehicles are isolated at homogeneous colour background of differential frame. Reference marks are detected and isolated as the moving vehicle darkest and lightest parts. Thereafter, geometrical centers of reference marks are calculated and their displacement speed in frame are measured, said speed is averaged to calculate vehicle speed proceeding said averaged reference mark speed and pre-calibration of the frame lengthwise size.

EFFECT: higher validity of vehicle sped measurement.
