FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: alloy is chosen from a group of solid alloys. An entropy value is calculated for each of the above alloys. Solid alloy with the entropy value exceeding the base alloy entropy is chosen as material for a cutting tool by comparing the calculated entropy to the entropy of the alloy that is basic for the processed material.
EFFECT: simplifying the choice of solid alloy at providing maximum operability of a cutting tool.
