FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method of producing (1-adamantyl)acetone (2-oxopropyladamantane) of formula by reacting 1-bromo(chloro)adamantanes with isopropenyl acetate in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst used is a heterogeneous manganese-containing catalyst MnCl2x4H2O/ SiO2 in molar ratio of reactants [1-AdBr or 1-AdCl]:[ isopropenyl acetate]=1:3 and weight content of catalyst of 10-20% (with respect to 1-AdBr or 1-AdCl), at temperature of 130-150°C and reaction time of 2-3 hours.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain an end product with high output, simplifies extraction of the end product, enables to use readily available catalysts, simplifies implementation of the process.
