SUBSTANCE: cruise control device for vehicle functions as cruise speed control, speed cruise control using brakes and provides selected level of economy. Device has preset maximum speed corresponding to maximum allowed speed for vehicle, preset speed for operating mode using brakes, corresponding to cruise speed control for operating mode using brakes, and preset cruise speed control corresponding to cruise speed control. In device specified speed for mode of operation using brakes is replaced with temporary speed for that mode as current speed, and temporary speed for operating mode using brakes depends on level of economy.

EFFECT: mode of operation of vehicle cruise control system can be adapted for economy modes, as a result of which, vehicle fuel consumption can be optimised.
