FIELD: transportation.

SUBSTANCE: at short-circuit moment currents are measured on adjacent traction substations, respectively, feeding inter-substation zone with short circuit catenary system, and connection to traction substation current value, feeding catenary system of track, where short circuit has occurred. Additionally measuring connection current value at traction substation, feeding intact catenary system of any other track in this inter-substation zone. Determining distance to failure point by implementing computational algorithm in form of corresponding mathematical expression.

EFFECT: invention can be used in traction AC power supply systems with two-way power supply and number of electrified tracks of two and more to determine distance to short circuit point.
