FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method includes scrap filling, casting of cast iron, flux loading, purging of the metal melt with a gaseous oxidant, sampling the metal and slag for chemical analysis, measuring the metal temperature, analyzing, discharging the metal, draining the slag, inspecting and preparing the converter for another melt. As one of the fluxes, a mixture of serpentinite and magnesite containing the components is added to the converter at the following ratio (wt %): MgO≥40; CaO≤5; SiO2≤40; Fe2O3≤8; Al2O3≤1; H2O≤2; loss on ignition ≤47%, with size 4-60 mm. The consumption of flux is 1-50 kg/t of steel, and the content of MgO in converter slag after the purging of the metal is 8-15%. In this case, the flux is added to the converter before filling the scrap, and/or after filling the scrap, and/or before the start of the purge of the metal melt with a gaseous oxidizer and/or during the purge of the metal melt with a gaseous oxidant.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to stabilise the slagging process, increase the resistance of the liner, prevent the formation of metal scuffs on oxygen tuyeres, improve the dephosphorization and desulfurization of the metal.
