FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: electrode is placed immovably in two current leads, its length is measured between the current leads, the current is passed through the electrode, the change in current values and voltage drop in time are measured and an experimental dependence of the resistance of the stationary electrode length unit on the time of the current flow is obtained. The rate of electrode melting is set under real welding conditions and the distribution of the resistance of the electrode length unit is obtained on the basis of experimental dependence in the cross-section with the coordinate x at moment t=x/VE, where x is the coordinate of the electrode stick-out cross-section, cm, VE is the rate of electrode melting, cm/s. The obtained distribution of the unit resistance of the electrode is integrated in each cross-section of its stick-out. The coordinate x is counted from the current supply cross-section during mechanized welding with an electrode wire, and during manual arc welding it is taken equal to the length of the molten portion of the coated electrode.

EFFECT: method allows to obtain all the necessary data on the electrode wire suitable for different electrode melting rates and stick-out lengths by performing one experiment with a fixed welding wire of a given diametre or with a coated electrode.
