FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: x-ray emitting device comprises a housing adapted to maintain a low pressure fluid environment, the housing has the first wall with a window substantially transparent to X-rays and the second wall having a portion comprising an outer surface of the housing comprising electrically insulating material; an electronic target inside the housing; an electrically charged material inside the housing; field emission points in the housing near the second wall portion having an outer surface of the housing comprising an electrically insulating material and a contact material for frictional contact with the electrically insulating material of the outer surface of the housing. The contact material contains such material that its frictional contact with the electrically insulating material creates a charge imbalance.
EFFECT: creatiing a compact X-ray emitter.
