FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: refraction is determined from a distance of 1m. Redetermination is performed with glass (-) 3.0 Dpt bringing to the eye. The accommodative response value is calculated by the formula: AR = R2-R1-A3, where AR is accommodative response, R2 is refraction with -3.0 Dpt glass, R1 is the initial refraction; A3 is accommodation problem: induced hypermetropic defocus of 3.0 Dpt. If the AR is equal to or higher than -2.0 Dpt, the accommodative response is evaluated as sufficient, if it is less than -2.0 Dpt - as reduced, if zero - as absent.
EFFECT: method provides an opportunity for objective definition of accommodation in babies to assign correct strategic adjustment, involving not only fixation of available refractive errors, but also potential control of further refraction genesis, prevention of amblyopia, strabismus, progressive myopia.
