SUBSTANCE: method of decoding a sample-adaptive offset (SAO) comprises receiving the context-encoded information about the SAO merge to the left and the context-encoded information about the SAO merge upward from a bitstream of the largest code unit (LCU); obtaining information about turning on/off the SAO from the bitstream with respect to each colour component by performing a contextual decoding information about the SAO type of the referred LCU over the first binomial; if the information about turning on/off the SAO indicates the operation of the SAO, performing the bypass decoding over the remaining binomials of the information about the SAO type, after the first binomial of the information about the SAO type of the referred LCU; receiving from a bitstream, information about the absolute offset value of the referred LCU for each colour component by performing the bypass decoding; and receiving from a bitstream, one of the position information of the strip and the information about the edge class of the said LCU with respect to each colour component by performing the bypass decoding.
EFFECT: minimizing errors between the source image and the image.
