FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: method of formation of oxide coatings on articles made of zirconium alloys includes placement of products in an oxidation chamber, subsequent heating, holding and cooling to a temperature of 100°C and below. The oxidation is carried out in an air atmosphere at a pressure of 0.1±0.01 MPa. The articles are subjected to induction heating at a current frequency at an inductor of 100±20 kHz and a specific electric power consumption of 100 to 140 kW/kg to a temperature of 800 to 1000°C, then they are held at this temperature for 3-5 minutes.

EFFECT: formation of oxide coating with microhardness of 17,3 GPa, consisting predominantly of monoclinic phase of zirconium dioxide using technologically simpler and efficient method.
