FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of machine and instrument making, namely to the technology of formation of local coatings of the system Ti-Zr-(Ti,Zr)xOy on products from titanium alloys, and can be used for protection of parts operating under conditions of high temperatures, aggressive media and abrasive action. Proposed method comprises electrospark alloying of titanium base and thermo-modifying treatment by induction heating in air atmosphere. Electrospark alloying with zirconium is carried out at density of alternating current of 0.6–1.9 A/mm2. Thermo-modifying treatment is then carried out at current frequency on inductor 90±10 kHz and temperature 1,000–1,200 °C for 1–10 seconds. Cooling of titanium articles is carried out in air.

EFFECT: formation on surface of titanium articles for various purposes of local coatings of system Ti-Zr-(Ti,Zr)xOy, characterized by hardness of 10±0,3 GPa, size of structural elements of 4–9 mcm and open porosity of up to 54 %.
