FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to machine building and instrument making, namely, to technology of chemical heat treatment and hardening of small items of structural and medical purpose made of titanium alloys. Method involves placing products in a heat-resistant container on a lining of powdered carbonaceous material, filling the article with powder on all sides, heating, holding and gradual cooling. Graphite is used as powdered carbon-containing material and powder. Powder is compacted after backfilling. Container is subjected to induction heating in air atmosphere at current frequency on inductor 100±20 kHz, current value 3.3–5.5 kA and specific electric power 25–75 kW/kg to temperature of 1,050–1,400 °C, then held at this temperature for 4–8 minutes. Cooling is performed in air.
EFFECT: provides for formation on surface of small items from technical titanium coating, having microhardness of 20,8–49,6 GPa and consisting of titanium carbonitride, by means of more efficient and technological method.
