FIELD: mining.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of petrographic studies of the argillites of the Bazhenov group and similar rocks and can be used in the preparation of thin sections of soft weak and/or fractured samples of sedimentary rocks. Method provides for sawing the initial workpiece, grinding one of the sawing surfaces, sticking the workpiece to a ground surface on a slide and grinding the outer surface of the billet to the desired thickness of the surface. Grinding of the sawing surface of the billet is carried out successively with the aid of jasper plates having, respectively, a roughness of 15–20 mcm, 8–10 mcm and 3–5 mcm, while the outer surface of the billet is also successively ground on jasper plates, and the argillites of the Bazhenov group are used as a billet.

EFFECT: as a result, the quality of the petrographic thin section is improved by eliminating the use of abrasive powders.
