FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a separator operating under pressure from 10 MPa to 50 MPa for separating a composition containing liquid components and gaseous components into a liquid fraction and a gas fraction, a method of separating, at a pressure of 10 MPa to 50 MPa, said composition and a method for producing homopolymers of ethylene or copolymers from ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of free radical polymerisation catalysts at temperatures from 100 °C to 350 °C and pressure ranging from 110 MPa to 500 MPa in a polymerisation reactor. Separator has a cylindrical shape and is installed vertically, in the upper part it has a hatch, surrounded by a thickened part of the wall of the separator. Separator is equipped with devices for introducing the composition into the separator, devices for sampling the gas fraction from the upper part of the separator and devices for sampling the liquid fraction from the lower part of the separator. Separator also comprises at least one bursting disc, held by a bursting disc holder, which is hermetically mounted in the opening of the thickened portion of the wall of the separator. Method of separating, at a pressure of 10 MPa to 50 MPa, a composition containing liquid components and gaseous components into a liquid fraction and a gas fraction carried out in a separator of the above structure, includes the following steps: feeding the reaction mixture into the separator, separating the reaction mixture into a gas fraction and a liquid fraction, sampling a gas fraction from the upper part of the separator, and sampling a liquid fraction from the lower part of the separator. In the method of producing homopolymers of ethylene or copolymers of ethylenically unsaturated monomers in the presence of free radical polymerisation catalysts at temperatures from 100 °C to 350 °C and pressure ranging from 110 MPa to 500 MPa in a polymerisation reactor, separation of the reaction mixture obtained during polymerisation is carried out in a separator of the above design.

EFFECT: technical result is to prevent the formation of dead space and simplify the design of the separator.
