POWERED SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS WITH FIRING SYSTEM LOCKOUT ARRANGEMENTS Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC A61B17/72

Abstract RU 2675082 C2

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medical equipment. Surgical stapler includes a handle, an end effector, an electric actuator for accommodating surgical staples, an activation mechanism and a locking mechanism. End effector comprises a pair of jaws having an open position and a closed position. Jaws comprise a channel for receiving a cartridge containing a plurality of surgical staples. Electric actuator comprises a power source, an electric motor and a working part adapted to move within the end effector between a non-extended position and an extended position. Electric motor operably interacts with the working part, selectively transmitting motion thereto in the distal direction to move the working part from the non-extended position to the extended position and selectively transmitting motion to working part in the proximal direction to retract the working part into the non-extended position from the extended positions. Activation mechanism is attached to the handle to move a pair of jaws from the open to the closed position and activate the drive and comprises a retraction firing mechanism. Locking mechanism is designed to pass current from the power source to the electric motor when the pair of jaws is in the closed position, and prevent the passage of current from the power source to the motor when the pair of jaws is in the open position. Pressing the firing mechanism while the working part is retracted reduces the current flow from the power source to the electric motor in proportion to the pressing force to slow down the working part.

EFFECT: locking is provided in powered cutting-stapling instruments, which prevents unintentional activation (id est cutting and stapling) and jaw manipulation.
