FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to new catalysts of formula (I), where M₁ is Zn, and M₂ is Mg, and catalytic system containing these catalysts. Radicals of the formula (I) R₁-R₅, E₁, E₂, G, X are defined in any of the paragraphs 1–6 of the claim. Present invention also relates to methods for producing catalysts and to methods for performing reactions between i) carbon dioxide with epoxide; ii) epoxide and anhydride or iii) lactide and/or lactone in the presence of these catalysts and catalytic systems. Method of producing the catalyst comprises the steps of: a) carrying out the reaction of a ligand of formula (Ib) with a compound of formula (IV): M₁(R_M1)_n (IV), where n corresponds to the oxidation state M₁; R_M1 is independently selected from hydrogen and optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkenyl, cycloalkynyl, aryl, heteroaryl, amino, alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylthio, or alkylaryl; and b) reacting the product of step a) with a compound of the formula (V): M₂(X)_m (V), m corresponds to the oxidation state of M₂, and c) optionally adding a compound containing G; where M₁ and M₂ are different and independently selected from Mg, Zn, Fe, Co, Al and Cr; R₁–R₅, E₁, X, R_x, G defined in paragraph 11 of the claim.
