FIELD: manufacturing technology.
SUBSTANCE: method of making glass plates with thickened edge for space photoconverters relates to electrical engineering, in particular, to the technology of making solar cells, namely, to production of radiation-resistant protective glass for photoconverters. In the method of making glass plates with a thickened edge for photoconverters of space application, which includes creation of a layer of surface compression on a glass plate, acid etching of the surface at a depth equal to or greater than the depth of the compressed glass and protection of the etched surface of the glass by chemical quenching, glass plates are cut out of glass workpieces, which are previously arranged vertically and are coated with a protective layer by immersion into the wax melt, forming, outside the protective coating, a surface area with a geometric configuration of the photoelectric converter with dimensional dimensions smaller by 2+10 mm, then, one of the sides of glass workpieces 30–60 mcm in an aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid and sulfuric acid is coated with a solid protective layer of wax, after which the wax coating is removed and glass plates with a thickened edge are cut out.
EFFECT: technical result consists in improvement of output of usable photocells in assembly and installation operations, reduction of repair works due to increased strength of edge of glass plate.
