SUBSTANCE: absorbent article (10) comprises absorbent member (1) comprising a plurality of absorbent sections (4), each including a long base portion (2) and particles (3) of the water-absorbent polymer, wherein absorbing sections (4) are located so that their longitudinal direction (Y) is oriented in at least one direction. Particles (3) of the water-absorbent polymer are attached both to the surface facing the skin, and to the surface of each long basic part (2), which is not facing the skin. Before the liquid is absorbed by the water absorbent polymer particles (3), particles (3) do not protrude laterally (X) beyond side edge portions (2s) of each long base part (2), and also after the liquid has been absorbed by particles (3), particles (3) do not swell beyond edge portions (2s) located laterally.
