FIELD: control systems.
SUBSTANCE: vehicle control device comprises a moving object detection device and a control unit configured to decelerate the vehicle based on the object detection result. Besides, control unit is configured to calculate relative distance in direction of vehicle width between main vehicle and moving object. Control unit is also configured to determine the need for deceleration by comparing the relative distance and the determination width to establish its own band. Width of determination for its strip is set based on relative speed of moving object in direction of movement of main vehicle.
EFFECT: prevention of collision of the main vehicle with the closest vehicle ahead, even in the case when it is difficult to distinguish the strip on which the nearest, next ahead vehicle moves.
