FIELD: engine building.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control over internal combustion engine with compression ignition. Disclosed is a controller comprising a valve control unit and a target value calculating unit. Valve control unit performs control of fuel injection valve, so that divergence decreases between fuel ignition delay injected into cylinder by means of main injection and target value of ignition delay. Target value calculating unit calculates target value of ignition delay, so that target value of ignition delay is reduced, when the estimated flammability of fuel in the cylinder increases during operation of the engine in an area where diffusion combustion and premixed combustion is carried out, the inflammability of fuel in the cylinder is evaluated based on a parameter which changes flammability.
EFFECT: providing a change in the combustion noise level during engine operation in an area where diffusion combustion and premix combustion are performed.
