FIELD: transport machine building.

SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of operating a long-term vehicle braking system. Proposed system comprises controlled primary decelerating brake 2 and controlled secondary decelerator 5. After prolonged braking mode activation and before request for deceleration brakes deceleration after activation of long-term braking mode for the first time exceeds first threshold value (P_max), said request (10) for braking with decelerating brakes is performed by primary brake-decelerator (2). First threshold value (P_max) is set such that it corresponds to value, which is less than or equal to braking torque maximally developed by primary brake-decelerator (2). At the first excess of the first threshold value, the secondary braking decelerator is activated by the braking brakes deceleration request after the prolonged braking mode activation. Device (1) for controlling or regulating system (100) of long-term braking and a utility vehicle are also disclosed.

EFFECT: higher speed of reaction of long-term braking system and/or minimization of heat influx from long-term braking and noise generation system; creation of device for improved braking request decoupling by braking decks into first part required from primary retarder brake, and to second part required from secondary brake-retarder.
