SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and a device for driving assistance. The driving assistance method comprises steps of causing control circuit to search map data stored in memory for route along road that vehicle is supposed to follow and guides vehicle into lane branching off road. When it is assumed that vehicle is heading for branch of road and there is lane for which it is determined that it allows vehicle to exit in direction of both routes. On section of road in which one of adjacent two lanes on main road forks to fork in road through fork point, and the other lane belongs to the main road after passing the fork, when vehicle reaches point within predetermined distance from the fork, compare information on suitability of side exit on route, indicating suitability for taking exit onto found route for each lane available at junction point, with information on suitability of side exit on route other than suitability for taking exit on route other than found route, for each lane to determine if there is lane that allows vehicle to exit towards either found route or different route.

EFFECT: increased convenience of vehicle control.
