FIELD: encoding technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an image encoding technology, and more specifically to a method and device for encoding images based on the transformation of an image encoding system. The technical result of the invention is to increase the efficiency of image encoding. The proposed method for decoding images, carried out by means of a decoding device according to the present invention, contains the following steps: extraction of quantized conversion coefficients relative to the target block from the bit stream; performing reverse quantization with respect to the quantized conversion coefficients with respect to the target block and extracting the conversion coefficients; extracting residual samples with respect to the target block based on the reduced inverse transformation with respect to the conversion coefficients; and generating a reconstructed image based on residual samples with respect to the target block and predicted samples with respect to the target block. The reduced inverse transformation is performed based on the reduced inverse transformation matrix. A reduced inverse transformation matrix is a non-square matrix whose number of columns is less than the number of rows.

EFFECT: technical result of the invention is to increase efficiency of image encoding.
