FIELD: image encoding technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an image encoding technology based on conversion of an image coding system. The proposed method for decoding images, carried out by a decoding apparatus according to the present invention, comprises the following steps: extracting quantized transform coefficients with respect to a target block from a bitstream; performing inverse quantization with respect to the quantized transform coefficients with respect to the target block and extracting the transform coefficients; extracting residual samples with respect to the target block based on a reduced inverse transform with respect to transform coefficients, and generating a reconstructed image based on residual samples with respect to the target block and prediction samples with respect to the target block. The inverse shortened transform is performed based on the inverse shortened transform matrix. A reduced inverse transformation matrix is a non-square matrix with fewer columns than rows.
