FIELD: image encoding.

SUBSTANCE: method for decoding images is proposed, which comprises the following stages: extracting quantized transformation coefficients relative to the target block from the bit stream; performing inverse quantization on the quantized transformation coefficients relative to the target block and extracting the transformation coefficients; extracting residual samples with respect to the target block based on the reduced inverse transformation with respect to the transformation coefficients and generating a reconstructed image based on the residual samples with respect to the target block and predictive samples with respect to the target block. The reduced inverse transformation is performed based on the reduced inverse transformation matrix. The reduced inverse matrix is a non-square matrix, and the target block size is KxK, where K is a positive integer.
