FIELD: metallurgy
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to continuous casting of slabs. The crystallizer contains four longitudinal walls arranged in pairs with vertical channels (3) for cooling water and thermocouples (7-10) in the vertical channels connected to an automatic cooling control system. The longitudinal walls are dismountable and consist of two halves: a support (4) part and a working (5) part. The support part is made of stainless steel and contains staggered protrusions (6) forming channels for cooling water. The distance between the protrusions along the width of the walls (a) is 15 to 17 mm, the distance between the protrusions along the height of the walls is 10 to 15 mm, the thickness (h) of the protrusions is 5 to 6 mm, the width (c) of the protrusions is 8 to 10 mm. The working part is made in form of a nickel sheet the thickness "δ" and the thermal conductivity "λ" whereof are related by the ratio δ/λ=(0.83-1)∙10-4 m2°C/W.
EFFECT: ensured use of overheated water for cooling the walls of the crystallizer and casting of high-alloy steels and heat-resistant alloys excluding cracking of the shell of a preform in the crystallizer and reducing metal losses by cutting the head part of the preform.
