FIELD: biotechnology.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method and a composition for increasing the ability of double-stranded RNA introduced exogenously with respect to a target pest and in relatively harsh environmental conditions to silence gene expression in the pest. Method comprises a step of adding a protein or amine cross-linking compound and/or an acid to a composition with a cell, where the cell is a bacterial cell designed to contain a DNA sequence, which, when transcribed, gives a double-stranded RNA, for post-transcriptional gene expression silence in an insect pest. Protein or amine cross-linking compound is glutaraldehyde in amount of 0.1 or 0.5 % in terms of the final volume of the composition, and the acid is lactic or formic acid in amount of 0.5 M per composition. Also provided are compositions containing bacterial cells, which contain dsRNA, and glutaraldehyde and/or acid, such as lactic or formic acid, as well as their use for preservation of biological activity of dsRNA.
EFFECT: disclosed are methods for preserving biological activity of ribonucleic acids.
