SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to microbiology, infectious diseases, disinfectology, and concerns a method for assessing the composition of a biofilm. Biofilms of the studied culture are formed by introducing a bacterial suspension into the wells of a polystyrene plate, followed by incubation under optimal temperature conditions for bacteria growth, adding a 0.1% aqueous solution of gentian violet to half of the wells with its extraction with 96% ethanol and photometry at a wavelength of 560 nm. Incubation is carried out for 40 minutes, followed by removal of the microbial suspension and the introduction of 200 mcl of sterile saline solution into all wells of the tablet and incubation for 24-36 hours, the introduction of a 0.5% solution of Congo red into half of the wells with alcohol extraction and subsequent photometry at wavelength of 490 nm, and the composition of biofilms is estimated by the formulas.

EFFECT: using the method makes it possible to differentiate extracellular substances and structures of the biofilm matrix, excludes the influence of natural sedimentation on the formation of a biofilm, which ensures an increase in sensitivity, accuracy and verifiability.
